A lot of good people have gotten into bad trouble by following the wrong leader. They didn't realize it until they were way down the road with the person. One way to determine early on what the leader is all about is to find out who the leader is following. Morris Baxter, the morning DJ at WLCK jazz station in Atlanta, emphasized that point in his recent "Morning Motivation" message.
To learn who a leader is following, ask who they admire and pattern their leadership after. In my case, it is General Colin Powell, Bill George, my grandmother, and my father-in-law. Each one has leadership qualities I have always strived to emulate. Listen for both the ‘who’ and the ‘why’ of their selection you’ll learn a great deal about them and their worldview.
You must take the time to ask the question. If you don't, you run the risk of not finding out if the person is leading you down the wrong road until it is too late.
