“You have to rise above the noise to be successful”
To reduce the number of automobile accidents, many states, including the one I live in (Georgia), have enacted “Distracted Driving” laws. If it were up to me, I would pass “Distracted Living” laws. Reason being, I’m seeing way too many people have their lives and careers wrecked because they got distracted. In this digital, always connected world, it is very easy to get distracted. We not only have people constantly talking to us on social media, but we also now have our TVs, watches, computers, cars and refrigerators talking to us. You can’t escape the noise, but you can rise above it. Your ability to do so will determine your success. Specifically, your ability to:
Not let your critics or people with their own agendas distract you.
Not let rumors and “He Said/She Said” distract you.
Not let past failures and disappointments distract you.
In addition to being able to rise above the noise, you must also not contribute to it. For example, think about the CEOs who have recently said stupid things that got their whole company and shareholders distracted. They are not alone. I see way too many grown-ass, professional people post stupid things on social media that create unnecessary noise.
In closing, being hard of hearing and slow of speaking are good things in today’s world. If you are, you will be successful and not be guilty of “Distracted Living”.
